The Future Focus Foundation Board of Directors welcomes new leadership with the election of Dr. Cheryl Lindeman as President and Cheryl Giggetts as Vice President.
The Future Focus Foundation Board gave thoughtful consideration in the recent election of new leadership recognizing the importance of the organization to represent both education and industry to align with its mission - To prepare and encourage Central Virginia students in K-12 and beyond to seek careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields and to provide a pipeline for a technically and scientifically proficient workforce. Changes in officer positions were unanimously approved at the May 4, 2022 board meeting.
Newly elected president, Dr. Cheryl Lindeman, has an extensive background in STEM education including serving as a middle and high school science teacher, founding faculty member of the Central Virginia Governor's School for Science and Technology, and teacher educator for Randolph College. Lindeman as a passion for generating enthusiasm and awareness for STEM learning also serving as the Director of the Central Virginia Regional Science Fair and supporting the creation of a curiosity club at the Jubilee Center for elementary students. Lindeman expressed excitement about the possibilities concerning her new role and future of the organization, "It is indeed an honor to be guiding the Future Focus Foundation's board as we collaborate using our STEM mindset -- Thinking forward to STEM engagement. The FFF board is actively seeking to plant new STEM "partner seeds" as we continue to provide meaningful experiences for students and teachers in our region. Harnessing curious minds -- we are in the position to grow!"
Cheryl Giggetts brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the board from STEM related industry serving as current CEO of CTA Consultants, an independent public safety consulting firm located in Lynchburg Virginia. Prior to beginning her own consulting company, Giggetts worked as a senior executive for AECOM, one of the largest engineering firms in world. Outgoing President, Elizabeth Narehood, shared," I am thrilled have Dr. Cheryl Lindeman and Cheryl Giggetts elected to these leadership roles. Their passion and commitment to STEM education is sure to bring great vision and opportunity for students, educators, and industry in Central Virginia."
Elizabeth Narehood has served on the board in a variety of capacities over the last 10 years beginning with Managing Director of the organization in 2011 when it was affiliated with Virginia's Region 2000 Partnership. Narehood has supported the education non-profit in recent years as a volunteer board member. Vice President Cheryl Giggetts shares, " The Future Focus Board is grateful for the many years of excellent leadership provided by Elizabeth Narehood as our President. We wish Elizabeth well in her future endeavors. Now we are excited to welcome Dr. Cheryl Lindeman as our new President and look forward to working with her to help realize her vision for the Future Focus Foundation."
